Montana Plecoptera List Summary

This is one of our better known insect orders with 9 families, 52 genera and 114 species. This the 6th largest fauna among the state and provinces of North America.

Recent Discoveries

Not much to report here- I have 2 large early season collections that have not yet been examined.

Research Needs

As one of our best known orders this should be a good group for serious ecological research For example, The use of the large and very well known perlodids and perlids in rapid bioassessment studies could be productive. Studies on the range expansion of Acroneuria abnormis across Montana and into the headwaters of the Missouri River could also be interesting. Our prairie species and hyporheic species could use more attention.
