Nais bretscheri Michaelsen

Recognition

One or 2 dorsal hair chaetae are present. The dorsal needle chaetae are bifid with fine, equal teeth and they number only 1 or 2 and they are straighter than the ventral chaetae. The ventral chaetae on 2 to 5 have very long upper tooth and they are longer and dissimilar to those on segment 6. Some ventral chaetae from 6 are enlarged with distal tooth bent back and it is much longer and thicker than the proximal tooth. Close to Nais pardalis. Most Nais have eyes.

Summary

The length is 2.5 to 7 mm. It swims with spiral movements.
