Pristina leidyi Smith
Recognition
One to 4 dorsal hair chaetae are present and these are elongate on segment 3 and serrate except on segments 2 and 3. The dorsal needles number 1 to 4 and are minutely bifid, but generally appear simple pointed. Dorsal chaetae begin already on the second segment only in this genus and Pristinella jenkinae, which lacks a proboscis. The ventral chaetae number 2 to 12. There are no eyes. Coelomocytes are present. One to 3 genital chaetae in segment 6 with long converging teeth.
Summary
Pristina longiseta Ehrenberg is now included here. The length is 4 to 8 mm.
Distribution
A widespread North American species.
